Hip4Kids was founded in 1999 and has worked in communities across the United States as a recognized Not for Profit Educational Company since 2001. For over 20 years Hip4Kids has educated children, young adults, parents, and teachers to combat childhood obesity, Type II diabetes and the health and environmental problems associated with these twin pandemics. Hip4Kids was one of the earliest proponents of what has become the Buy Local and Farm to Table Movements. Our message to support local farms and buy local are integral parts of our original mission statement! Through more than two decades Hip4Kids has combined its founding educational messaging, perspectives, and multiple community and virtual curriculum programs with the need for awareness in the ongoing fight to combat climate change and the danger of environmental threats as it pertains to community health in the most underserved communities in the country. Our work with Emblem Health, New York City Public Schools, The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, The New York State Offices for Children & Families, The New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene and The Childrens Aid Society were groundbreaking in their effort. Our community programming with The N.Y.C. Department of Parks & Recreation has been recognized as the original educational after school and community program seeking to address the epidemic of childhood obesity, the pandemic of type II Diabetes and related environmental challenges. In conjunction with The Governors Office of The State of New York and The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation under the banner of Wake Up! Shape Up! New York Hip4Kids pioneered community programming at Thomas Jefferson Park, Central Park, and myriad other Parks locations to teach New York City parents and young adults the way to cook healthy affordable meals in the fight against childhood and adult obesity and Type II Diabetes. At the request of The Offices of President Bill Clinton and the Obama White House Hip4Kids submitted comprehensive plans for early learning programs for children, young adults, parents, and teachers for both on the ground and virtual learning. Eight additional public teaching formats were created for the community including our groundbreaking programs for incarcerated youths in conjunction with The New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Working with the N.Y.C Department of Education our after-school programs within NYC Schools became a for credit course under the mantle of CFES (College for Every Student) and ESL Programming (English as a Second Language) Hip4Kids continues to Create a World of Education to combat the onslaught of Americas and the worlds pandemics of obesity, type II Diabetes and their relationship to Covid-19. We continue to enlist the aid of local and national governments to further address and combat Environmental Health threats that plague underserved populations and to break barriers to access of Clean Food & Water.
